When one travels through Iceland at night, one might come across bright orange lights so powerful that they light up the sky. I was baffled both by the completely surreal experience and my inability to pinpoint the source of the lights.
On an overcast day, it looks like the light is coming from the heavens as if the most unlikely of Hollywood end-of-days synopses suddenly became reality. It turns out these are just greenhouses used for growing produce, lit by ultra-powerful high-pressure sodium lights that generate the telltale orange glow.
They have entire towns covered with those, which creates these apocalyptic scenes that one can see from kilometers away.
This is part of a series of photos from a recent trip to Iceland.
