Located along the ring road, on the south side of the island, Skeiðarársandur is an outwash plain (read: desolate volcanic sediment flatland) that is as eerie as it vast. This is a picture taken from an abandoned bridge on the side of the road.
This was taken before sunrise around 11 am in December (the sun rises late in the morning in winter).
