Single serves has recently released its 24th episode overall and while each interview is on a specific topic, I've noticed that a recurring theme throughout the interviews.
Mass timber architecture is one such theme, with past interviews of Andrew Waugh and Michael Green, two of the most innovative architects in the prefabricated mass timber typologies.
I recently conducted another interview with a pioneer of the field, this time closer to home: an interview of Catherine Krug, director of product at R-Hauz, a general contractor working exclusively in prefabricated mass timber mid-rise buildings. It will be released soon.
What I've learned from all these conversations is how behind the times the architecture industry is when it comes to the way business is done and delivering maximum value for its customers.
All three have found their own little niche to dominate and as a result have seen great success for their respective firms. They are the kind of people who are quietly disrupting the industry.
My bet is on them, because they've found ways to take architecture from a playground for the wealthy to a discipline that might finally see the democratization it's been clamouring for for over 100 years.
Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming interview with Catherine.
