If you want to understand on a deeper level what's wrong with the mainstream media, "Trust Me, I'm lying" by Ryan Holiday is a scathing and refreshingly candid account of how media work in the digital age and how easily manipulated they are.
Holiday is not only an excellent and cynical writer, but also a very eloquent proponent of certain moral values, which is ironic since he spent his early career doing things that were morally questionable. However, this book is hi mea culpa, that intends to make up for the dubious tactics he used early on in his career to get media attention.
A must-read for anyone who wants to understand the inner workings of modern media.
