I'll be the first to admit that I can write stuff that's serious and intense at times. Therefore, on Fridays I'll be featuring something more lighthearted, fun or creative, so we can all end the week on a high note. Have a great weekend!
If there is one thing that the pandemic and its attendant stay-at-home orders have allowed us to do is to watch more than our reasonable share of entertainment online. As with anything, there is a lot of crap out there that's very easy to get sucked into, thanks to youtube’s algorithms.
However, occasionally a gem pops up that makes us pause and think for a while. "To Spring" a cartoon from the golden age era is one such gem. Part of the Happy Harmonies series that MGM ran in theatres from 1934 to 1938, it is the story of how spring is made by underground gnomes who find themselves fighting a pesky Old Man Winter.
The graphics, music, lyrics and overall theme are all extremely engaging. I've found myself constantly humming the theme and coming back to watch the cartoon over and over again.
Whether you have kids or not, it's well worth the 9 minutes and if you do have kids, they'll thank you for choosing that over paw patrol. If they don't, maybe you should consider disowning them.
Note: I found this gem (and many others) as part of a series of "Classic Cartoons" that have been compiled on Prime Video. Highly recommended.
