DesignTO celebrated its tenth-anniversary last year, while I celebrated my first of being one of their ambassadors. No one is more baffled than me that they’ve asked to continue my ambassadorship, the third year in a row in January 2021. They must have lost their minds, but I digress.
While it’s anyone’s guess to which extent we will be able to hold in-person events for the festival, they have nonetheless decided to maintain the 2021 edition, as the festival is the yearly highlight of the design community event calendar and will be a much-needed relief for our likely continued isolation, a more than welcome relief in the dead of winter and antidote to SAD.
Needless to say that an organization like DesignTO, a non-profit relying on private donations and sponsors, is more than ever in need of support as it’s in difficult times that the funding dries up. Ironically, it’s also in these times that the community needs more than ever to come together in the spirit of cooperation and innovation. Even if money is tight, a little support from you goes a long way and helps the festival remain a staple of the design community.
How do you get involved? Great question, which the festival organizers have preemptively addressed here, for artists looking to submit project ideas. But if you’d prefer a slightly less involved involvement (yes I know), you can also just attend the festival, become a member (bonus point if you sign up for a premium membership), volunteer during the festival (an awesome way to make new friends) or become a sponsor (if you want the ego-boost of having your name plastered everywhere).
I’m also working on my own installation called “Living Will” that deals with the inevitability of death and how to make the best of whatever time we have left with our loved ones. More on that later.
