In the US, 49% of people claim to very little or no trust in TV news compared to 27% just a little over 25 years ago.
This shows, that more than ever, we have to look for the sources of information that are more authentic and don't distort the facts as much to push an agenda driven by incentives that are misaligned. Not to say that books are exempt from bias, but the enormous effort required to publish a book makes it more difficult to spew unfalsifiable bullshit without at least a modicum of scrutiny.
While we're all more or less biased, it shows that when we put agenda before truth, the public's confidence drops. It works the same way with a professional services firm. The more you act in a way that is not congruent with what you claim to be, the more your reputation will suffer. Reputations are being destroyed because some firm owners lack any understanding of this basic principle and believe that a fat layer of lipstick will make that pig a supermodel. Culture is everything.
