I often hear from friends and clients that hiring the right talent is difficult, even more so retaining it, as kids these days like to job-hop for a better pay, benefits, foosball tables or bottomless beer taps. This is the reality of a job market that has to learn to cater to millennials who want to "make a difference", whatever that means.
On the heels of the question asked recently by our long-time reader Justus, I wanted to share this job posting from Akimbo, on online training company launched by Seth Godin.
They make no secret of their untraditional culture and hiring practices. One only needs to read the ad to realize that, but they focus on the important: namely the ability to do the job and eagerness to work for such a company.
While this is the kind of job posting that will likely turn off a number of candidates, I think it's masterfully crafted to appeal to the right ones. By doing so they eschew the gruelling work of poring through hundreds of resumes and cover letter that are designed to sound good and convey the right message, putting the employer at an unfair advantage as every candidate will say what the employer wants to hear.
To be able to hire this way, employers need to be crystal clear on what they stand for and who they want to work with, the same way a good copywriter knows what their audience wants, what they aspire to and what action he would like them to take.
