A city without zoning

The title of this piece would suggest a hypothetical libertarian wet dream, a city with no rules where people build what they want where they want.

In reality, Houston is quite far from that free-for-all utopia and is an interesting case study about how a city can exist and grow without constricting zoning ordinances. Check out this video by the folks at City Beautiful to learn more about it.
