I'll be the first to admit that I can write stuff that's serious and intense at times. Therefore, on Fridays I'll be featuring something more lighthearted, fun or creative, so we can all end the week on a high note. Have a great weekend!
I'm a big fan of art that takes everyday objects and represents them in a whimsical, playful manner that makes us rethink what we take for granted.
Alex Chinneck does this with buildings, among other objects, and creates sculptural forms that seem to defy the laws of nature. It's playful, original and makes these buildings look way more interesting than they would without his intervention.
It's easy to see how predecessors like Gordon Matta-Clark and Richard Wilson could have influenced Chinneck (I don't know that they did), but regardless, I wish more of this urban-scale art was commissioned as part of building the city. It makes it more interesting.
