After decades of ignoring an ever-changing marketplace and stubbornly refusing to engage new audiences, the company now finds itself with a dwindling customer base and no other demographic interested in their products.
The lesson is this: markets change all the time and seemingly at a constantly increasing rate. For any company that wants to be in it for the long haul (yes, that include architects and designers) one would be well advised to pay attention to where the market is going and follow it, or better yet, try to predict where it will go and get there ahead of the surge in demand.
