In times where there isn't a day with news of impending doom due to global warming, Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn is an interesting reframing of the question concerning the place of humanity in the world.
While it's only a fable, it is very effective and nudging the reader to think about the world, nature, and the role of humans within it in a different way. In that sense, it is timeless despite being almost 30 years old.
The use of the Socratic method as a narrative device to tell a story is very effective. Not only it's a good read, but it will challenge one to think outside of the box. It also parallels other ideas such as the Lindy effect.
If you haven't read it, I recommend it, if only to see the world from a different perspective for a moment.
